The constitution of 10 special committees comprising veterinary doctors and inspectors has gone down well in controlling the incidence of foot-and-mouth disease, said E. Saravanavelraj, Collector.

Addressing officials at a review meeting in checking the disease here on Wednesday, the Collector said shortly after the disease attacked 16 animals in the district, a coordinated effort was taken by the animal husbandry and revenue departments.

Veterinary doctors visited villages and administered vaccines to the animals. The Collector said intensive action was being taken against the disease and appealed to the farmers to use only mixed feed instead of flour feed.

Ganapathi, regional joint director of animal husbandry, was present.
