Panel lauds implementation of schemes in Villupuram

Joint Secretary of the National Consultative Committee K. Raju led a three-member team to inspect Centrally-aided development works in Villupuram on Saturday.

Accompanied by District Collector V.Sampath, the team visited places such as Ongur, Padhiri, Keezh Adhanur and Saram.

At Ongur and Saram, the team members interacted with students of panchayat union primary school to ascertain how well the Education for All Scheme is being implemented in the district.

They asked the students to explain certain aspects and also demonstrate what they have learnt. The team members also tasted the food prepared in the nutrition meal centres attached to these schools. At Padhiri, the members watched desilting works being carried out in a lake at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. They enquired about the number of beneficiaries employed at the spot, payment mode, etc.

At Keezh Adhanur, they inspected 35 green houses being constructed by the State government at a cost of Rs. 1.8 lakh per unit. The Collector told them that 28 units had already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries.

Winding up their programme, the team appreciated the district administration for the manner in which the schemes were being implemented.
