The fee committee of the Government of Puducherry chaired by Justice Malai Subramaniam has increased the fees at two private medical colleges.

According to an order dated June 12, the committee has increased the fees of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital (SMVMC) and Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The fees at SMVMC has been increased from Rs. 2.25 lakh per annum to Rs. 2.36 lakh per annum for three academic years from 2013-14 to 2015-16. At PIMS, the fees has been increased from Rs. 2.40 lakh to Rs. 2.52 lakh.

The institutions are not entitled to collect any fee under any guise except the fee structure fixed by the committee. Any deviation would be a violation of the Supreme Court resulting in action against the management by the Government.
