CHENNAI: The committee, which was constituted by the School Education Department earlier this month to regulate fee structures in private schools across the State under the Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Act 2009, met here on Wednesday.

The meeting, chaired by former Madras High Court Judge K. Govindarajan, who heads the committee, was convened to initiate the process for the regulation of fees. To start with, Chief and District Educational Officers have been asked to get a questionnaire filled by all private schools in their respective jurisdictions.

According to sources in the School Education Department, the questionnaire asks for information pertaining to aspects such as number of teachers, their qualification, number of students, infrastructure and fee collected in schools. After the data has been verified, the DEOs and CEOs would give the filled-in questionnaires to the committee that would consolidate it.

A meeting would be organised for the CEOs and DEOs in the last week of December so that they could begin circulating the questionnaires in January, sources said.
