`Prepare an action plan and work hard to implement it'

Krishnagiri: Panchayat presidents should work closely with the district administration to make every panchayat self-sufficient. The schemes of the Union and State Governments should be properly implemented, said the secretary for Information and Tourism, V. Iraianbu, here on Thursday.

Mr. Iraianbu said that the two-day training for newly-elect panchayat presidents would focus on the procedure for convening and conducting gram sabhas, implementation of various government schemes, collection of revenues and maintenance of accounts and development of the panchayats. Panchayat presidents should have a vision about how their panchayat should be in the next five years.

On completion of five years, panchayats should have better road facilities, ensure the supply of protected drinking water, streetlights, adequate school buildings and libraries.

Panchayat presidents should prepare an action plan and work hard to realise this dream. This would make Krishnagiri one of the most progressive districts in the State. He said that panchayat presidents had a precious opportunity to serve the people when compared with those employed in the private sector.

Being elected by the public they were vested with powers to sanction and take up various development works in their concerned areas, Mr. Iraianbu added. Collector Santhosh Babu and Assistant Director, Panchayats, Appao were present.
