TIRUNELVELI: The Thiruvenkatam police are looking for the vice-president of Nakkalamuththanpatti panchayat for allegedly murdering the panchayat president on Wednesday.

Police said Thiruppathi Raja (45), vice-president of Nakkalamuththanpatti panchayat, had developed enmity with the panchayat president, Jakkaiyan (45). As they recently had an altercation over the expenditure of the pancahyat, the enmity worsened. Thiruppathi Raja and his associates allegedly attacked Jakkaiyan with a spade on Wednesday. He died on the spot.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has announced a solatium of Rs. 2 lakh to the family.
