Two panchayat assistants have been placed under suspension on the charge of demanding bribe from beneficiaries of the Kalaignar Housing Scheme.

In a statement released here, Collector R. Palanisamy said K. Masilamani of Eyyil in Melamalaiyanur and P. Shanmugam of Kanangur in Thiagadurgam, serving as panchayat assistants, not only delayed handing over cheques but also demanded bribe from beneficiaries for releasing payment.

Verification

During verification, the allegations were found to be true.

Hence, they were placed under suspension and disciplinary action was initiated against them. By invoking the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Panchayat Act 1994, explanations had been sought from the respective panchayat presidents and vice-presidents for such lapses.
