A Palm Civet which strayed into a farm at Uthukuli was rescued and put back into the forest on Monday.

District Forest Officer K. Rajkumar told that the Palm Civet was handed over to the forest officials by the farmer who first noticed the animal. “Since the animal is a protected species under Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, it has been immediately released into the forest at Chennimalai area,” he said.

Forest officials said the said animal used to enter mostly into farms where coconut was grown.
