Pallavan Grama Seva Scheme planned in 267 villages

Pallavan Grama Bank, the Regional Rural Bank sponsored by Indian Bank will soon launch ‘Pallavan Grama Seva Scheme' in 267 villages in 15 districts in the State, G. Rangarajan, chairman, said here on Thursday.

Financial inclusion

Participating in the Samathuva Pongal celebrations organised by the bank at Kurubarapalli village, Mr. Rangarajan said according to the guidelines of Reserve Bank of India, the new service will soon be launched under the Financial Inclusion Plan in villages with a population of below 2,000 where there was no banking facility.

The staff of the nearest branch will meet villagers and bring every household

under the banking network. The scheme will be in operation for two years.

The bank has introduced Core Banking Services (CBS), Electronic Clearing System (ECS) and ATM facility in many villages to help customers.

The number of bank branches will soon cross the 100 mark, he said.

The bank has 95 branches in the state and has deposits to the tune of Rs. 640.46 crore in the third quarter of the financial year 2010-11. It has disbursed Rs. 773.94 crore as advances.

The bank has a total of 23,981 SHG accounts. It has provided Rs.109.49 crore as loans to 4717 SHGs in the first three quarters of the fiscal. In Krishnagiri district, the bank has a total of 7,588 SHG accounts and has disbursed Rs. 64.70 crore to 2,074 SHGs with an outstanding amount of Rs. 110.03-crore from 6,821 SHG accounts during the same period.

The bank has mobilised Rs. 269.23 crore as deposits and disbursed advances to the tune of Rs. 345.68 crore from 27 branches in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts, he added.

Earlier, G. Lakshmi Priya, Additional Collector (Development), inaugurated the traditional Samathuva Pongal Vizha, sports and Rangoli competitions for the members of SHGs organised by the bank at the village.

Oratorical competitions were conducted for the members of the SHGs.

Ms. Priya gave away prizes to winners of the competitions. She distributed Rs. 64.22 lakh as loans to 87 SHGs from eight of its branches in Krishnagiri district.
