CUDDALORE: The directly sown paddy crops on at least 50,000 acres in the tail-end delta regions of Kattumannarkoil and Chidambaram are facing bleak prospects for want of adequate water, according to V. Kannan, vice-president of the Cauvery Delta Farmers’ Welfare Association.

If the rains failed for the next one week the crops would wither, and this would mean a great deal of loss to the farmers. To save the standing crops, the water release from Mettur Dam ought to be stepped up from 16,000 cusecs to 20,000 cusecs, Mr. Kannan said.
