It has been proposed to construct as many as 66,705 individual toilets in 152 panchayts in Villupuram district during the current financial year , according to V.Sampath, Collector.

The government would give a subsidy of Rs 5,700 for each toilet and the individuals would have to make a contribution of Rs. 900. The toilets would be built under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan.

The Collector made this observation while addressing officials here on how to maintain integrated sanitary complexes meant for women and children in the district. He said individual toilets could also be built by utilising manpower enrolled under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

During the said period, as many as 359 toilets for Anganwadis and 733 toilets for panchayat union and government schools would be built. The district had a total number of 1,094 integrated sanitary complexes built at a cost Rs. 19.27 crore in 22 panchayat unions. He told the officials to ensure proper maintenance of these facilities.
