Results will be published after a month
Over 63,000 candidates seeking admission for MBA and MCA courses took the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) at 87 centres across the State on Saturday.
As many as 41,000 candidates took the test for MBA and 22,000 for MCA.
Anna University, which conducted the test, said that there was an increase in the number of candidates who took the test this year.
But, there was 9 to 11 per cent absenteeism in terms of the number of students who appeared as against the number that applied, Vice-Chancellor P. For instance, in Coimbatore, 4,203 candidates for MBA and 2,663 for MCA took test, as against the 4,916 and 2,887 who had applied. Mr. Jawahar said that the results would be published after a month. The counselling date would be announced after that.
TANCET for M.E., M. Tech. and M. Arch. courses will be held at the same centres on Sunday. A total of 43,000 candidates will appear.
Counselling for MBA and MCA will be held in Coimbatore while counselling for the technical courses will be in Chennai, Mr. Jawahar said.
On the TNEA for BE / B.Tech. courses, Mr. Jawahar said that the issuing of applications would end on May 31. “The university has so far sold nearly 1.60 lakh applications. It is estimated that 2.50 lakh applications will be sold till May 31.”
Mr. Jawahar said that the actual number of seats might be known around June 24 once approval was given for new colleges and increasing intake and number of courses in existing institutions.
