Distribution begins in Tiruchi district

TIRUCHI: About 6.63 lakh family cardholders will be eligible to draw the Rs.2 per kg rice under the public distribution system in Tiruchi district.

Distribution of rice began in the district on Saturday and long queues of cardholders, especially women, were seen in many ration shops. Elaborate arrangements had been made by the district authorities to ensure the smooth distribution of the rice. Police bandobust was also provided in the shops.

According to officials, about 5.89 lakh regular cardholders were eligible to draw rice in the district. Apart from this 73,625 cardholders would get the ration under the Andhodaya Anna Yojana.
