Fishermen stay away from the sea

Nagercoil: Heavy rain lashed various parts of Kanyakumari district on Sunday, bringing cheers to the farming community.

More than 50 houses were damaged owing to incessant rain.

Roads damaged

Thazakudi and Thiruppathisaram roads were damaged and the people were put to untold hardship.

The roads leading towards Colachel from Asaripallam were also damaged. Fishermen in and around Chinna Muttom did not venture into sea for fishing for the last one week owing to rough weather.

Similarly fishermen from Arockiyapuram, Vavuthurai, Kovalam, Keelamanakudi and Melamunakudi stayed away for the last three days.

Kanyakumari witnessed lesser number of tourists for the last one week.

Paddy fields inundated

Around 33 houses were fully damaged and 15 were partially damaged owing to the incessant rains.

Moreover, 41 hectares of paddy fields were also inundated in the different parts of the district.

Rainfall

Maximum rain of 95.3 mm was recorded at Surulode followed by 89.8 mm in Perunchani, 83.3 mm in Nagercoil, 82 mm in Chitar I, 78 mm in Pechipparai, 71.6 mm in Kottaram, 71.5 mm in Boothapandi, 68.8 mm in Aralvoimozhi, 60 mm in Chittar II, 58 mm in Myladi and 47.2 mm in Kannimar.

The water level in Pechipparai Dam stood at 40 feet, 68.80 feet in Perunchani, 11.22 feet in Chittar I and 11.31 feet in Chittar II.
