More than 350 students from various colleges participated in a national conference on ‘Growth and Challenges of Retail Industry in India’ organised by the Department of Commerce of Adhiparasakthi College of Arts and Science, Kalavai, at the college on Wednesday.

S. Gurusamy, Head of the Department of Commerce, University of Madras, said that agriculture is the basis for industry. Foreign direct investment helps to promote agricultural sector and there should be inclusive development in the economy.

Akhil Jain, Marketing and Communications Manager, Havells India Limited, Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry Region, explained various strategies adopted in retail marketing. S. Ilayaraja, assistant professor, Department of Business Administration, RMD Engineering College, Chennai, explained the impact of FDI in retailing, and various advantages of FDI.

A. Mohamed Sadiq, Principal, Adhiparasakthi College of Arts and Science, presided. S. Lakshmi, Head of the Department of Commerce, welcomed the gathering. A. Sathya, assistant professor, proposed a vote of thanks.
