CHENNAI: MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Sunday rejected the argument that his party’s votebank had eroded, saying it was a false propaganda with an ulterior motive.

“Our vote bank and party remain intact,” he told reporters before the district secretaries meeting of the party.

“There is a huge difference between the last election and this election. In the last election money played no role. But this time money played a major role,” he said.

Mr. Vaiko said the Lok Sabha election witnessed fight between money power and democracy. “The ruling DMK used money and muscle power to demolish democracy in the State. It is only a temporary phenomenon. Ultimately democracy will prevail,” he stressed.
