For 528 new BT recruits appointed in Government schools

TIRUCHI: The mandatory three-day orientation programme in Mathematics, Science and Social Science for 528 new BT recruits who have been appointed in Government schools across the State commenced at three centres here on Wednesday.

At the E.R. Higher Secondary School, 193 mathematics teachers attended the programme devised to orient the new teachers on the syllabus, the details of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and the approach they ought to adopt towards the profession. College teachers and senior Post-Graduate teachers were drawn as resource persons.

Likewise, 177 science teachers attended the programme at Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Teppakulam, and 158 teachers of social science were present at the R.C. Higher Secondary School.

Education department authorities have made arrangements for their stay in four schools: Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Teppakulam, and Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Puthur, for male teachers and at Seva Sangam Girls’ Higher Secondary School and Holy Cross Girls’ Higher Secondary School for women teachers.

All the teachers have received their appointment letters after undergoing counselling and would join duty at their schools upon producing a certificate of their participation in the orientation programme, Chief Educational Officer R. Muthukrishnan said.

Similar orientation programmes for other core subjects are being held in other parts of the State. Teachers of English and Tamil have already undergone the orientation programme and have begun to join duty.

With the joining of new teachers, Government schools are heaving a sigh of relief as they no longer need to face the difficulty of managing over-crowded classrooms. They can accord specialised attention to slow learners, thereby improving the overall pass percentage.

The number of new BT teachers joining in Government schools in Tiruchi will be known within the next couple of days. Most of the requirement of 330 BT teachers and 15 Tamil Pundits in the Government schools in the district will be fulfilled.
