‘The Erode-Coimbatore passenger should run an extra trip every day’
Coimbatore: The regular commuters using the train services between Coimbatore and Erode have appealed to the Southern Railway to ensure timely operation of train services.
The train services between Coimbatore and Erode has a lot of regular commuters. Most of these commuters are season ticket holders.
The number of commuters are high on both the directions. A huge number of commuters travel between Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode daily.
Most of the passengers opt for trains that reach the destination between 9 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.
However, either owing to delay at the departure station or because of the inordinate detentions en route for the other trains to cross, the trains were never run on time. Since the Superfast, Express trains are cleared first these fast passenger trains have to wait till the Superfast trains go.
Most often these trains are detained between Coimbatore Junction and Irugur to give priority to the Superfast trains.
Commuters from Coimbatore bound for Erode and Tirupur usually travel by 384 Coimbatore – Nagercoil Fast Passenger, 1014 Lokmanya Tilak Express (between Coimbatore and Kurla) and 888 Palghat – Tiruchi Fast Passenger because of their timings.
However, because of the detentions en route and delayed departures, these trains never reached the destination stations as per schedule and causing inconvenience to the passengers.
Demanding a solution, the passengers have asked the railway administration to ensure timely operation of trains, especially train number 888 which they said also required two more coaches since the number of commuters travelling in this train is high.
They also demanded that the above mentioned trains should be stopped at North Coimbatore for two minutes so that Coimbatore Junction gets decongested besides adding up to the convenience of commuters.
They added that to ease pressure on road traffic, the Erode-Coimbatore passenger train should run an extra trip every day.
There should be train services from Coimbatore to Erode between 13.00 to 16.00 hours and from Coimbatore to Erode between 08.10 hours to 11.30 hours, they said.
The regular commuters feel that train number 607 should be run as per schedule.
It should depart at the right time and should take only 2 hours and 15 minutes to cover the distance so that office goers and students are not put to hardship.
Trains between Coimbatore and Erode in the mornings namely Sabari Express, Raptisagar, Kurla, Nagercoil – Coimbatore Express, Egmore – Mangalore link express should run on time and stop at North Coimbatore for two minutes for the convenience of passengers.
In the evenings trains from Coimbatore to Erode such as Mangalore – Egmore Link Express, Sabari Express, Jayanthi Janata and Coimbatore - Nagercoil Express need to be run on time as per schedule besides a stop at Coimbatore North for two minutes.
The primary demand of commuters on either side is that detentions en route for the crossing of other trains need to be avoided so that the trains were on time as per schedule.
Southern Railway authorities said that while every effort was being taken to ensure punctual operation of trains, line utilisation capacity and bottleneck between Coimbatore and Irugur often forced the detention of trains for the crossing of other trains.
Once the line doubling works were over, the detentions for crossings between Coimbatore and Irugur could be completely eliminated and the passengers need to wait for another six to eight months for this long felt dream to turn into a reality.
