The facility to reserve retiring rooms at various railway stations was launched at the Coimbatore Junction on Friday.

According to railway sources, the facility is available at 40 railway junctions across the country.

Till now, passengers with confirmed tickets for onward and return journey could get a retiring room by furnishing the tickets at the junction.

Retiring rooms at railway junctions such as Chennai, Madurai, Rameswaram, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkatta could be reserved from stations where online reservation facility is created.

In addition, people visiting Coimbatore on short trips could also book their retiring rooms from the stations where they commence their journey.


Coimbatore Junction has nine retiring rooms and nine dormitories. These are available at 12-hour tariff and 24-hour tariff.

For reservations to be made at Coimbatore for retiring rooms in stations elsewhere, passengers need to approach the matron at the Coimbatore Junction retiring room with the tickets and get the reservation done.


In the subsequent phase, after the staff get fully trained, the Salem Division is planning to have the facility loaded onto the IRCTC and railway website wherein passenger could book the retiring rooms at the time of booking the journey tickets as well.
