One more tribal infant died in the Attappady Hills on Tuesday.

Four-month-old baby of Lakshmi and Veeraswamy of the Palakayoor tribal hamlet in Pudur grama panchayat died at their house. But Health Department authorities said the child died not because of malnutrition at it had the required weight at the time of birth. On Monday, 21-year-old Kavitha, daughter of the late Nanchan, former Pudur grama panchayat president and Valliyammal of the Venthavetti hamlet, died of alleged anaemia. Kavitha was admitted to the Kottathara tribal specialty hospital initially and the end came when she was being shifted to the Palakkad district hospital on Tuesday after her condition deteriorated. She was a final-year B.Sc. Botany student at Mercy College, Palakkad.

Meanwhile, a three-member team of UNICEF from Chennai reached Attappady on Tuesday to study the issue of infant deaths in the tribal hamlets.
