SALEM: One person was killed and six others were hospitalised after they reportedly consumed illicit liquor in their village near Bommidi in Dharmapuri district on Saturday.
Police sources said Selvam (32), a daily wage labourer, and six others, all residents of Kutkalmalai village, allegedly consumed the liquor sold by an arrack trader. Shortly after consuming, they fainted and were rushed to the Bommidi Primary Health Centre, where they were given first aid. They were later referred to Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital.
While Selvam died on the way to hospital, the condition of others was said to be serious. The Bommidi police are investigating.
The illicit liquor death in the district caused serious concern as many people in the neighbouring district of Krishnagiri were killed in the recent illicit liquor tragedy.
