The police on Sunday arrested one person and seized 3,000 liquor bottles kept in a private bar here.

Sources said acting on a tip off they raided a bar near Aranmanai, where a large number of beer, whisky, rum and brandy bottles were kept for illegal sale during the local body election period. Udayakumar of Achunthanvayal was arrested.

The police warned that tough action would be taken against those selling liquor as the State government had already closed all TASMAC and other Indian Made Foreign Liquor shops in view of the local body elections.

Meanwhile, a flying squad seized 68 bundles of crackers, which were kept by one Ramu of Thondi.

He didn't possess necessary license for selling crackers.

It was also being probed whether the crackers were kept for distribution to woo the voters.
