KARUR: A 65-year-old person was killed when a speeding train hit him while crossing an unmanned level crossing between Karur and Dindigul on Tuesday.

The Nagercoil-Mumbai Express crushed a cattle broker Nallakannan of Uppidamangalam village to death when he attempted to cross the unmanned level crossing between Velliyanai in Karur district and Palayam in Dindigul district riding his moped.

Bystanders howled to restrain him but Nallakannan was unable to hear the shouts of others and the whistle of the speeding train.

Railway officials immediately rushed to the spot and later removed the body to Karur Government Hospital for post mortem.
