Hulimavu police on Friday arrested nine men who allegedly set 10-year-old Kavitha on fire, inflicting 83 per cent burns on her. The main accused is her cousin.

The child was on her way to school Thursday morning when she was doused with kerosene and burnt by the gang at Weavers Colony in Bannerghatta.

The police said the accused — Harish, Shrinivas, Manjunath, Ramesh, Raju, Babu, Ramesh, Raghu, Harish alias Yallappa — were harbouring a grudge against Kavita’s father Venkatesh, a cab driver. Moreover, about a year ago, he had filed a complaint against the main accused, Harish, and his associates for committing a robbery. All the nine are in judicial custody, police officials said.

Sources at Victoria Hospital said the girl’s condition is deteriorating and she is said to be critical.
