BANGALORE: Madivala corporator M. Muniraju on Thursday alleged that officials from the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board are trying to cancel allotment of houses to 114 genuine beneficiaries under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY) scheme in Madkuramma Colony slum of Tavarekere.

Mr. Muniraju, who heads the Standing Committee on Health in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council, told presspersons that these allottees had already paid Rs. 5,000 to the board after getting the allotment notices. "But officials from the board are now misleading the State Government and trying to evict the original allottees. They want to allot these houses to some other people from whom they have collected hefty amounts," Mr. Muniraju said.

Threatening to launch a stir if the original allottees were evicted, Mr. Muniraju said that he would shortly stage a protest demonstration in front of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy's residence.
