Caught in the net:Plastic carry bags being seized from shops in Pudukottai.
The municipal officials conducted surprise raids in shops in new bus stand and in Santhanathapuram areas in the town on Tuesday and seized plastic carry bags and tea cups. A team of officials visited all the shops in the areas in the evening and effected seizure. The operation continued for about an hour. Cases were registered against shop owners and fine was also slapped on them.
Municipal sources said that the authorities have already warned the shops owners from using and marketing plastic bags and cups, and had also held discussion with the members of traders association in this regard. Similar raids will be conducted regularly, the sources added.
