Theni and Dindigul Collectors unfurl the National Flag

Honouring freedom fighters, distribution of welfare aid to beneficiaries and presentation of mementoes and certificates to best performing government officials and the police personnel marked the Republic Day celebration in Theni and Dindigul districts on Thursday.

In Theni, Collector K.S. Palanisamy unfurled the national flag at district sports complex near Collectorate, took the police salute and inspected the parade of armed police personnel, NCC, fire and home guards. He also floated balloons in the air.

Later, he distributed welfare aid worth Rs.58.48 lakh to 319 beneficiaries including Old Age Pension to 240 persons and economic assistance of Rs.24.53 lakh to self help groups and honoured government officials and police personnel with medals and certificates in recognition of their meritorious service.

Later, students of Government Higher Secondary Schools in Theni, Gandamanur and Andipatti, Renuga MHSS, Kammavar MHSS, Santiniketan HSS, St. Alloceous HSS and inmates of BC students' hostel and Manitha Neyam Home presented a scintillating cultural show.

Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar Abinapu and District Revenue Officer J. Vijayarani participated.

Dindigul

Collector K. Nagarajan unfurled the national flag and took the police salute. Later, he inspected the police parade. The Collector also honoured the freedom fighters and distributed welfare aid worth Rs.7.26 crore to 4,833 beneficiaries, including free patta to 4,127 beneficiaries, annual maintenance grant to ex-servicemen and economic assistance to SHGs and farm machineries to agriculturists at the function. The Collector floated balloons. The best performing police and government officials including Nilakottai Medical Officer A. Asai Thambi and Dindigul Tahsildar A. Selvaraj were honoured with medals and certificates. The Collector honoured freedom fighters with shawls. Superintendent of Police T. Jayachandran and other officials took part.

Students of Filominal School, Vidyaparthi HSS, St. Joseph's GHSS, St. Patricks MHSS, St. Mary's HSS and MSP HSS put up an eye catching show of cultural programmes.
