They check facilities available at matric and nursery schools

There are 286 matriculation and nursery schools

In the first phase, 150 schools were inspected

Nagercoil: Officials have been inspecting infrastructure and facilities available at matriculation and nursery schools in Kanyakumari district.

According to the Department of Education officials, there are 286 matriculation and nursery schools in the district. As directed by Collector Rajendra Ratnoo, nine teams had been formed — one team for each block — in Agasteeswaram, Thovalai, Rajakkamangalam, Killiyoor, Thuckalay, Munchirai, Melpuram, Thiruvattar and Kuruthencode to inspect facilities in the schools.

In the first phase, the officials inspected 150 matriculation schools. It was learnt that two reputed matriculation schools in Nagercoil did not obtain proper permission from the authorities.

Taking into account facilities available and whether licence was obtained or not, a final list of schools would be prepared.

Those who had applied for renewing the license must ensure that rules pertaining to sanitation, fire and stability of the building were complied with.

The officials would conduct another round of inspection of all schools recommended by the teams in the nine blocks on Tuesday after which the final list would be released.

The officials had also made arrangements to shift students studying in un-recognised schools to recognized ones.

Hence, parents need not worry about the future of their wards’ education, the education officials said.
