R. Kannan, secretary, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE), on Monday inspected the ramparts surrounding Sri Ranganathaswami Temple for taking up maintenance work.

The ramparts forming the V, VI, and VII prakarams of the temple have been damaged.

A few stone walls have collapsed in the recent past. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered restoration of ancient architectural beauty and soundness to the weak structures.

The Chief Minister’s initiative was in the wake of representation made by the residents of Srirangam. Mr. Kannan, accompanied by Collector Jayashree Muralidharan and other officials, inspected the ramparts, especially those which were badly damaged, and ascertained the steps to be taken for its repair.
