DINDIGUL: Guru Shanmugam, Assistant Elementary Education Officer, Natham block, was arrested in a forgery case relating to issuance of bogus transfer orders to nine government school teachers.

The district crime branch police produced him before the Judicial Magistrate Court-II on Monday evening. He was remanded to 15 days judicial custody. He was lodged in Dindigul district jail. The police are also in search of a typist working in the District Elementary Education Office and an employee of a private travel agency in this connection.

Acting on a complaint lodged by District Elementary Education Officer Selvakumar, the police had filed a case and are in search of the accused.

Preliminary investigations had revealed that the transfer orders were bogus and teachers shelled out huge sums of money for them. When S. Subramaniam of Periyurpatti Panchayat Union School produced a transfer order for Kollapatti Middle School to Mr. Selvakumar, on suspicion, he lodged a complaint with the police.
