NSUI membership drive extended

Membership enrolment drive for National Students Union of India (NSUI) in Madurai zone comprising of 11 districts has been extended up to November 27, said M. Lingaji, Pradesh Returning Officer, NSUI elections, here on Thursday.

He told presspersons that the Madurai zone comprised of Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tiruchi, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Dindigul, Theni, Pudukottai and Thanjavur districts. Students can download membership forms from the website www.nsui.in/tn and apply to district returning officers. They should paste their photos and ID proof from the college in which they are studying. Students pursuing regular degree course in a college affiliated to University or Tamil Nadu State Board after 31st January, 1984 are eligible for enrolment as members.

Lingaji said that after completion of membership enrolment, elections will be held for College committee, College delegates, District committee, State committee and National committee and National delegates.

NSUI elections have so far been completed in 16 states. Tamil Nadu is the 17th State. A college NSUI unit should have at least fifty members. Elections will be held after enrolment is completed in Madurai zone and they will be held in a place outside college campus.

“Message from Rahul Gandhi MP and general secretary of Congress to students is “Be a member of NSUI, contest elections and become a leader,” he said.

He supervised the membership drive in Thanjavur district. M. Ramkumar, former MLA, Nanji Varadarajan, Thanjavur south district president of Congress, Rajangam, Thanjavur North district president were present.
