SALEM: The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Periyar University has short-listed six volunteers for the Pre-Republic Day parade camp to be held in Chennai.
The volunteers were selected at a programme organised by the university here recently.
A total of 32 students from the affiliated colleges of the university in Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts participated in the programme.
Of them, the following students were selected: Mohammed Abdul Rahman - Vysya College, C. Vijayan - Kandan Arts and Science College, Namakkal; Sudhagar - Government Arts College (GAC), Dharmapuri; and G. Asharani, Praveena and Devia - all students of GAC, Salem. The Pre-Republic Day camp would be held from November 20 to 29 in Chennai. Top performers would be selected for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi next year, a release from University NSS Co-ordinator V. Singaram said.
Meanwhile, the NSS of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) shortlisted eight volunteers for the Pre-Republic Day camp at a centralised selection programme organised in C.S.I. Polytechnic College here on Monday. About 100 volunteers from polytechnic colleges in Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts participated in the camp.
Those selected are K. Dhanasekaran - Salem Polytechnic College; M. Sreenivasan - Kavery Polytechnic; R. Anish Fathima - Muthayammal Polytechnic; K. Kalaiselvi - Nandha Polytechnic; and S. Prabakaran, E. Francis Devaraj, S. Jennifer Nirmala and M. Sathya Priya, all students of C.S.I. Polytechnic College. NSS Programme Co-ordinator, DTE, Chennai, V. Seetharaman and College Principal R. Samson Ravindaran were present.
