A week-long National Service Scheme (NSS) camp for 500 students of VIT University took off at Mittoor village on Thursday.

According to a release, the camp has been organised in Tirupattur and Alangayam blocks. Students would conduct surveys on school dropouts in villages and social background of rural population. Training programmes on computer skills, English language, mathematical concepts and stress relief would be conducted for students from government schools.

Chancellor of VIT University G. Viswanathan inaugurated the camp. He said rural students did not enjoy the same opportunities for higher education as students from towns and cities. It was for this that VIT had launched “Universal Higher Education for All” project.
