Hundreds of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) workers laid siege to the Periakottai town panchayat office on Thursday condemning the inordinate delay in settling their wages.

They picketed the road and did not allow the town panchayat officials to leave the office. The workers charged that wages for the past two months have not been settled. “With no farm activities taking place owing to failure of the monsoon, NREGS alone had been ensuring our survival,” they said.
