Employment office to conduct the exercise at schools
Plus Two students have been spared the trouble of queuing up before the District Employment Offices this year to register their qualification after receiving their mark sheets.
Thanks to the software developed by the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), the Directorate of Employment and Training is to implement the online registration of their qualifications of the students very much in their respective schools on May 25 when they will be given their mark sheets. Students only need to produce their family cards to get their qualification registered instantly, and obtain the acknowledgement. As for those who had already registered their SSLC qualification, the employment card should also be produced.
Chief Educational Officers were apprised on Tuesday on the procedure for online registration. In turn, the CEOs are to train headmasters and computer teachers of the schools about the methodology. It was in 2009 that the concept of ‘Employment Office at Doorstep' was introduced; the Department of Employment and Training organised special camps at six schools – two in the city limits and four in rural parts – across the district for five days for carrying out the registration process so as to prevent huge rush at the Employment Office.
In the preceding years, thousands of students used to rush to the District Employment Office and wait endlessly in hot sun for hours, and the police had to be deployed as a safeguard measure to prevent law and order problems. Last year, too, the special camps were conducted similarly with geographical planning. Yet, though the crowd was manageable, there were difficulties in issuing the acknowledgement on the same day as the process was carried out manually.
This year, the task will be completed over a 10-day period from May 25 in as many as 200 higher secondary schools across the district, the Chief Educational Officer T. Mohana Kumar said. Irrespective of when the students' names are registered online during the ten-day period, the seniority will be the same as the first day. Headmasters will be asked to explain this factor in clear terms to the students so that the task could be accomplished smoothly, he said.
