Nagercoil: The services for getting various certificates including land patta and submission of public grievance petition thorough SMS has been inaugurated recently by Tourism Minister N.Suresh Rajan.

The function was presided over by Collector Rajendra Kumar. For making available the benefits of latest technology to all sections of public, the scheme has been launched first first in Thiruvalluvar district and it has evoked a very good response.

The public can send an SMS to 5473 in the prescribed format for obtaining birth certificate, nativity certificate, community certificate, income certificate, death certificate and land patta copies. They can also submit their grievance petitions to the district administration through SMS.

The nominal charges prescribed by the Government for these services would be deducted by the BSNL from the cell phone account of the person who sent the SMS. The amount so collected should be transferred to the Government account.

The public can save their time and money which otherwise would be spent on transport, etc., in visiting taluk offices and the collectorate. The certificates would be delivered through post by the taluk office and other Government offices within a week.

The petitioners should be given reply through SMS when the certificates were dispatched.

A sum of Rs. 5-15 would be collected for birth certificate, Rs. 5-15 for death certificate upon the year, Rs. 3 for community certificate, Rs. 15 for residence certificate, Rs. 15 for income certificate, Rs. 30 for patta copy and Rs. 2 for General grievance petition, the Collector said.
