KARAIKAL: The Karaikal Union Territory Struggle Group (KUTSG) on Tuesday launched a novel agitation in protest against the delay in the laying of a new broad gauge rail link between Nagore and Karaikal.

KUTSG members resorted to begging on the streets in order to collect funds for the project. They collected Rs.201 and sent it to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad as the initial contribution of the region towards the project.

Several members, including KUTSG president N. Nandhivarman, raised slogans against the Government for not taking steps to allocate 50 per cent of the total cost of Rs.66 crore for the rail link.

They appealed to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to take up the issue with the Railway Ministry.
