The Madras High Court Bench here has ordered notice to the Kanyakumari police on a writ seeking Rs. 25 lakh compensation for allegedly registering a false complaint against an advocate.

Petitioner S. Girinivasa Prasad, an advocate from Kanyakumari district, claimed that the police foisted a complaint against him and his client under Sections 294 (b), 353 and 506 (I) of the IPC for abusing the Head Constable of Vadaserry police station using a ‘filthy language.’

The complaint was registered in 2009. The incident tarnished his reputation in the legal circles and among the general public, Mr. Prasad claimed.

He had sent a representation to the Chief Secretary of the State in 2012 seeking legal action against the Head Constable and the Sub-Inspector of Vadaserry police station.

He moved the court when no action was initiated.

He lost his clients and was under apprehension of arrest, he contended while seeking the compensation.

Justice K.K. Sasidharan ordered notice to the police on Thursday.
