SALEM: The Salem Amateur Arts Trust organised a three-hour non-stop musical extravaganza in the city on Friday evening as a part of the Tamil New Year celebrations in which leading playback singers and musicians took part.

Led by the famous music duo of M. S. Viswanathan and Ramamurthy, the programme `Immortal songs,' included singers of yesteryears and today. Those who sang included L. R. Eswari, Kovai Murali, Anandu and Srinivas. Film lyrics of past and present were sung to the delight of the audience. Another film musician Govarthan also was felicitated.

Salem City Police Commissioner Seema Agarwal and city's elite attended the programme. The `Lifetime' achievement awards were given to M. S. Viswanathan and Ramamurthy. Trust office bearers Nellai Kannan, Shanmugam and Rasi Saravanan organised the event.
