CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government has given its nod to the Crime Branch CID to take steps for interim attachment of the property involved in the case of cheating the public against Anantharaj of Othiathur village in Villupuram district. The special unit will file an application before the court seeking attachment of property. A CB CID official said Anantharaj (45), who was with a church at Perur near Mahabalipuram here, had allegedly collected money to the tune of several crores of rupees from the public after giving an assurance that he proposed to construct houses for the poor.

The probe revealed that besides those in Tamil Nadu, building contractors in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka had been cheated.
