There is adequate water to meet the requirements of the people of Chennai and its floating population, and the city is unlikely to face a water crisis, Municipal Administration and Rural Development Minister K.P. Munusamy told the Assembly on Tuesday.

Responding to CPI (M) floor leader A. Soundararajan, who wanted to know the availability of water since the monsoon had failed to bring adequate rain, Mr. Munusamy said that at present water supply was 831 million litres per day (MLD) and the water position was enough to meet the requirement till April-May. “The Chief Minister has asked us to speed up the Nemmeli desalination plant and we will get another 100 MLD of water. Therefore, there will be no shortage of water,” he said.
