ERODE: To enter villages of Pullankadu, Vaithottam and Othapanai in Nichampalayam panchayat, near Thingalure, one needs acrobatic skills.

For, the roads laid some 25 years back are now not even good enough to walk on.

Even if you manage to enter the village, getting a glass of drinking water will be another arduous exercise. The villages does not have proper drinking water supply.

Says Dharuman (60): “For the last 25 years, I have been suffering without drinking water, road facility or toilets. No one is helping us. When elections are announced, villages are flooded with promises. Once it is over, even the elected persons do not visiting the area.”

The Nichampalayam panchayat has sunk a borewell and provided an electric motor. The water is not potable. So the villagers have to go to nearby areas to collect water for cooking. The panchayat officials said that already a proposal is pending for providing River Bhavani water to the area.

There are no sufficient street lights. For the three villages only two streetlights are burning.
