No nomination papers were for the Yercaud by-election in the last two days. The officials said that this was anticipated as Monday was navami — considered an inauspious day — and on a Tuesday no good work is carried out. All India Anna Dravida Munetra Kazhagam sources said that their party candidate P. Saroja will be filing nomination papers on Wednesday.
Returning Officer B. Sabapathy told The Hindu that two persons bought the application forms on Monday and Tuesday. “So far 21 nomination forms have been distributed,” he added. Referring to a holiday declared on November 15 on occasion of Muharram, he said that nominations can be submitted on November 14. Earlier, November 14 was declared a holiday.
