Desiya Murpokku Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijayakant on Friday termed the Governor’s speech in the Assembly a compilation of various announcements made by the government in the past.

In a statement issued here, Mr. Vijayakant said with the failure of monsoon, the farmers in the State demanded compensation to the tune of Rs. 25,000 per acre and the farm labourers expected Rs. 10,000 from the government. However, no announcement was made by the Governor in this regard, which would disappoint the agriculturists.

Similarly, due to monsoon failure, several areas in the State were hit by drought. The State government should have conducted a study and submitted a report to the Centre. But, nothing was mentioned about it in the speech, he pointed out.
