Train services between Coonoor and Mettupalayam on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) line will resume on Thursday, according to a railway press note on Wednesday.

Following boulders falling on the track near Adderlie on November 24, train services on the sector had been suspended for three days. Since the damages were heavy and the rain had continued the resumption was postponed by a week.

An inspection of the sector, which was most vulnerable to natural calamities, was carried out on Wednesday. The decision of the Southern Railway has been welcomed by the hospitality sector.

N.Chandrashekar, secretary, Nilgiri Hotels and Restaurants Association, said that usually around this time of the year there was a rise in the inflow of foreigners and couples on honeymoon particularly from North India.

Pointing out that many foreigners visit The Nilgiris to experience a ride on the steam train, K.Natarajan, founder of the Heritage Steam Chariot Trust, welcomed the move to resume services.
