Four students of National Institute of Technology–Tiruchi (NIT-T) have been awarded the O.P.Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarship (OPJEMS) 2010.

The students - V. Mathangi, Aditya Venkatraman, Sampanna Parhi and Abhilash Mahadevan - received the scholarship on Wednesday from B.E. Rajendran, General Manager – HR, JSW Steel Ltd, O.P. Jindal Group, in the presence of the Officiating Director V. Ramprasad.

The scholarship, said G. Kannabiran, Dean, Research and Consultancy, NIT-T, is an endeavour of the industrial group to promote excellence and the values of Shri O.P Jindal who stood for perseverance, humility, entrepreneurship and character.

Late O. P. Jindal was one of those who not only envisioned success for himself, but also for those who shared his vision and had the faith to see his dreams transform into India's shining example of corporate excellence.

Having built successful businesses across sectors and set new goals of excellence in various fields, the industrial group, through the OPJEMS, aims to identify and recognise meritorious graduate/post graduate students who emulate Shri O.P Jindal's vision/values and have the potential to become leaders in entrepreneurial and innovation excellence.

In a communication last year to the NIT-T, the industrial group had exuded confidence in the former's role in providing platforms to nurture and channelise ambition towards value enhancement at both individual and national level.

The four students were among 106 recipients from 31 prestigious institutes across the country to receive the scholarships amounting to Rs. 65,000 for an engineering student and Rs. 1.25 lakh for a management student. The recipients were chosen during August-September 2010 on the basis of online tests on the respective campuses followed by interviews.
