NIT-T nets championship

It was four days of action and excitement at the all-India inter-NIT (National Institute of Technology) sports meet, which concluded here on Tuesday.

Organised by NIT-Tiruchi, the tournament attracted around 800 students from 17 NITs in various parts of the country. Cricket, basketball, table tennis, tennis, chess, handball and kabaddi were conducted for men, while basketball, table tennis, tennis, and chess were held for women.

The host emerged victorious in the men’s basketball, table tennis, handball, tennis and women’s basketball, chess, and tennis. NIT-Tiruchi was also adjudged the overall champion of the meet.

At the valediction, R.Lalitha Lakshmi, Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi district, said that taking part in sporting activities helped in keeping the mind and body fit.

S.Sundarrajan, Director, NIT-Tiruchi, said the spirit of participation was more important than winning.

Ms. Lalitha Lakshmi distributed prizes in the presence of V.Ramprasad, Dean-Students’ Welfare, NIT-Tiruchi; P.J.A. Alphonse, Associate Dean (Students Welfare); and M.Rajendrakumar, Physical Director.

Men:

Cricket: Rourkela; Basketball: Tiruchi; Table tennis: Tiruchi; Tennis: Tiruchi; Chess: Calicut; Handball: Tiruchi; Kabaddi: Warangal.

Women:

Basketball: Tiruchi; Table tennis: Bhopal; Tennis: Tiruchi; Chess: Tiruchi.
