: Nithyananda filed two petitions in the court of principal sub-judge here on Thursday, seeking to declare null Madurai Aadheenam’s decision to remove him from the post of 293{+r}{+d}pontiff of Madurai Mutt and the Aadheenam’s appointment of Ilaya Thambiran in the mutt.

The petitions were filed three days after Nithyananda’s petition to thwart Madurai Aadheenam’s attempt to dissolve a trust formed in their names was dismissed by Principal Sub-Judge K. Guriviah. According to Nithyananda, Madurai Aadheenam Arunagirinathar does not have the powers to remove him. Therefore, the Aadheenam’s decision should be declared null and he should be allowed to the mutt to perform pujas, he told the judge through his advocates.

In another petition, he said the Aadheenam has no powers to appoint Ilaya Thambiran and hence his appointment of one Thiruchitrambalam for the post should also be declared null.

The Sub-Judge asked the Aadheenam to file a reply and adjourned the case to February 15.
