  • This will enable institute to handle 3,800 students
  • The hospital on the campus will be modernised

TIRUCHI: The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi (NIT-T) will appoint 75 new teachers, including 45 lecturers, for its 15 departments in the coming months.

With the appointment of 55 new teachers since last year, staff strength has risen to 200. The new appointments will enable the institute to handle student strength of 3,800. These appointments are for backlog vacancies that arose over the past 10 years with the creation of new departments. Several new teaching vacancies may arise in the event of implementation of the 54 per cent reservation, in two phases, over the next couple of years, according to NIT-T Director M. Chidambaram.

    New hostels

The institute has embarked on a massive expansion of infrastructure, anticipating an increase in the student strength to 5,600 over the next four years. New hostels are coming up on the campus. The institute proposes to provide single-room accommodation to final year B.Tech students and all post-graduate students.

Laboratories are being improved and construction of new classrooms taken up to accommodate 100 students in each class, Mr. Chidambaram said. Additional quarters would be constructed for the teaching faculty. The hospital on the campus would be modernised. To attracting quality faculty, the institute will set up a school on the premises to cater to educational needs of their wards. At present, most of the children study in schools in the BHEL township.
