The Tirupur North police on Thursday arrested Nnambi Antony (26), a Nigerian, on the charge of staying in the city without valid travel documents.

Inspector J. Nagarajan told The Hindu that the Nigerian was picked up from Golden Nagar, where he was staying for the past many months, under Section 14 of Foreigners’ Act, 1946. He was later produced before a Judicial Magistrate who sent him to judicial custody. “The accused has been taken to Puzhal Central Prison,” Mr. Nagarajan said. Police sources said that Nnambi Antony, a native of Ilorin city in Kwara State of Nigeria, had come to India on a visa to get medical treatment over a year ago. Though his visa had expired eight months ago, he managed to stay in Tirupur and do garment business without getting caught.
